Choosing a Home Inspector

Chooshing a Home Inspector

Preparing for the Home Inspection Process

There is no such thing as a perfect home, and you need to know exactly what you are purchasing. Home inspections are highly recommended for all purchases.

Did you know that home inspectors are not required to be licensed or certified in Michigan? When choosing a home inspector, make sure the home inspector is either ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) or NAHI (National Association of Home Inspectors) certified. For your convenience, Vision Realty Centers has in-house home inspectors employed by Pillar to Post Home Inspections. Our in-house home inspectors are both ASHI and NAHI certified.

A good home inspection report will clearly state the problem, explain the significance of the concern if it’s not obvious, and will give an optional course of action to correct the issue.

Here are the main questions to ask a home inspector before hiring him/her:

How long have you been a home inspector?

Do you have client testimonials I can read?

Are you NAHI or ASHI certified?

Can I view a sample inspection report?

How long does it take you to inspect a ____ square foot home?

Once you have narrowed your search down to a couple home inspectors, let price be the last determining factor. The price of a home inspection could save you thousands of dollars on a home that is above your budget for unexpected repair costs.
